Wylde Green Station
Wylde Green station, located on the London & North
Western Railway's Aston to Sutton Coldfield branch line, was opened on 2nd June
1862 and was originally named 'Wyld' Green station. It was the last station on
the branch before Sutton Coldfield and its name was changed to Wylde Green in
1864. The station was only provided with passenger and parcel facilities as
goods services to the local area could be equally well served from Sutton
Coldfield. Passengers gained access from either steps and a pathway from
Station Road to each platform or from a long path that ran both sides of the
lines from Highbridge Road to both platforms. Highbridge Road and Station Road
were laid out in 1858 in anticipation of the coming of the railway. The LNWR
opened Wylde Green station on 2nd June 1862. Urbanisation of the area proceeded
rapidly thereafter.
